This bento was fun to make! The onigiri has tuna cooked with soy sauce, onions, and garlic. I got some extra filling ideas from
Maangchi, one of my favourite chefs! I wanted to include kimchi in this bento, but I was afraid it would become wilted if it stayed out too long.
clementine, cucumber with a tiny bit of sesame oil and salad vinegar, fried chicken thigh, a perfectly boiled egg, sausage, and onigiri. It sounds like a lot, right? It's no more than usual. This bento is balanced, tasty, and appealing.
I did have to dry up the extra moisture from the cucumber before packing, but it was nice and refreshing! Still wishing I'd had just a little kimchi with it, but I don't think there was space for it! Clementines are my current addiction. So sweet and tasty. I especially love them in the mornings.
I was so proud that my eggs turned out perfectly. I almost always overcook them, undercook them, or take most of the white away with the shell, but they were great this time! I actually used the ugliest one for my bento, as I made lunch for my hubby and I as well, where I finally got my kimchi. The sausage was so salty! It was delicious, and definitely went well with the rice, but I would use a quarter of a sausage next time instead of half.
I almost forgot about the most important thing! I coated the chicken thighs with salt for about 15 minutes before rinsing them off and cooking them. Boy, did it make a difference! I know most of you are thinking, "Well, duh!" but I'm still a cooking baby and love kitchen exploration and discovery.
Spring break is finally here, and it's rare for me to say I was looking forward to it. I usually cling onto the cold weather, but this year, it's nice so far, and I'm glad to have some extra time for bento!
